The Beginning

In 2002, Jerri Smart convinced her friend Billy Gregory, who had already secured the original Colmesneil train depot and had been collecting railroad memorabilia, to go in with her on the purchase of the town’s oldest standing house, the decaying home of W.T. Colmesneil.

W.T. Colmesneil was the the conductor of the first railroad train to come through the area, and the man for whom the town of Colmesneil was named.

Open to Visitors

The house, originally constructed in the 1880’s, was in bad shape when it came into their possession of Jerry and Billy. The two were determined to restore the historical home to its former glory. After 4 years of hard work and the help of dedicated volunteers, the W.T. Colmesneil House Museum & Library was revealed upon it’s grand opening.

Today, the house is brimming with history of the town and the period — including a full library, beautiful antiques, and small treasures — and is open to the public for all to experience.
